In October at Culinary School we started building gingerbread houses for the competition at Thanksgiving Point. I decided to make #12 Grimmauld Place from Harry Potter.
One of the funnest parts was stamping and painting the gingerbread. I stamped the gingerbread before I baked it then literally painted it with food coloring.
It was easiest to decorate most of it before putting it all together. I used hard candy for the windows and royal icing for all the decorations
After months of work... here I am in my culinary outfit and my finished house!
The next morning I came in (the day before the competition, mind you) and somebody punched in my house! Not a very nice thing to do. To this day I'm not sure who it was. The most I can figure it was a Lord Voldemort supporter... or the Anger Management class.
I thought it was over but my class and teacher encouraged me to try and fix it...
Not as good as the original but for being smashed to pieces, not too bad.
In the end, despite the hate crime, I won 2nd place!! And I won a Blendtec. Not too bad.
I cant wait till next year. I learned my lesson though, to not get mixed up with the Dark Arts and He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.

So I can't believe some one as cute and awesome as you could be the victim of a hate crime! They obviously were very intimidated and could only express their feelings through violence. I'm just glad it was only violence to some gingerbread, albeit very cute gingerbread. LAME! I'm glad you fixed it though. It still looks TOTALLY cool! What a great idea! And yay for the Blendtec! Our friends have one and love it!
SOOOOO cute Mel!! I LOVE it too and I can't possibly FATHOM who would do such a thing like punch in a work of art! SERIOUSLY, some people are SOOO mean and full of malitious acts...makes me sad. Anyway, good job on fixing it, and SUCH a cute idea, O creative one!!! We were VERY close to buying a Blendtec but went with the Vitamix...hope you LOVE it!!
You are amazing!!! I have to say this tops brentons BIG TIME and you can tell him I said that:) Seriously, you are so awesome! And sad that someone would be that rude, but it still looked fantastic!!!
This gingerbread house is the coolest thing I have ever seen! I love that you did a Harry Potter house... how did you even think of that. You are AMAZING!
Congrats, Melody! That was a great idea. Sorry that the Voldermort supporters didn't agree.
